Life of Agony frontperson Mina Caputo came out as transgender in 2011, transitioning to female
Mina Caputo, the iconic vocalist of Life of Agony, has taken to social media to announce plans to return to their male identity, expressing excitement about “lovingly living” in their “divine male self” by 2025.
The 50-year-old singer-songwriter, who rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the alternative metal band, first came out as transgender in 2011 and transitioned to female. Their journey has been an integral part of their public identity ever since.
In a heartfelt post shared on November 19, Caputo revealed that they have been “off of hormones for six, seven years now,” marking a pivotal moment in their de-transition journey.

In an emotional video shared on Instagram with the caption “de-transitioning one,” Caputo said: "Yes, I'm off of hormones for six, seven years now. And this January 2025, I am - my surgery has been booked so remove my fake breasts and I will be lovingly living in my divine male self."
They went on to share their personal triumphs and growth: "I've cured my gender dysphoria. It took many years, a lot of walking through the fire but I rose above my misunderstandings of my soul and my spirit."
Caputo also noted: "That's a completely different topic and video, so I won't unpack that all of that now, I just wanted to share with all of you guys that I'm off hormone therapy for six or seven years."
"I'm at a place where there's no more pain [...] And I've been existing in a different version of myself - a more healed version of myself."
In the video, Caputo opened up about the physical and emotional toll that years of hormone therapy had on their body and mind. They discussed the challenges of living with gender dysphoria, sharing how they had to undergo extensive trauma work and plant medicine therapy to heal.
Explaining their decision to share their story publicly, Caputo added: "And I'm making this video because a lot of people throwing me shade, saying I look ugly and look like a man."

"And it's like, 'Honey lamb, I am a man, I always was a man'. You're just not used to hearing authentic people speak, you're used to people spitting lies at you about their identity."
They also reflected on the importance of authenticity, saying: "And all the real transexuals know what I'm talking about because they own their authenticity. They're not about violating women's rights or the innocence of children and all that."
As part of their journey to fully embrace their true self, Caputo revealed plans to revert to their original name, “Keith,” symbolizing a return to their authentic identity.
Reflecting on their experience, Caputo shared that they had struggled with gender dysphoria for as long as they could remember. However, now, as they approach 51, they feel like they have finally reached a place of peace and healing, stating they can no longer find the dysphoria that once consumed them.
Despite feeling at peace internally, Caputo noted that their body, or “flesh vessel,” still reflects an earlier version of themselves. They expressed a desire to have their “fake boobs” removed to fully align with their current sense of self, declaring that this step is necessary for their happiness.

In the video, Caputo shared a deep perspective on the human body and energy. They explained their belief that the body is made up of “beams of light traveling” and that we are all fundamentally “soul” and “energy.”
Discussing their transition and subsequent de-transition, they said: "I was quite lost, so I integrated the feminine because she's always been within and it's a play on energy,"
Caputo elaborated further, stating: "That's all life is energy, frequency and vibration. And that's all I did because I engaged with the feminine, didn't ever make me a biological woman ever and I never will be."
They also reflected on the limitations of physical transformation, saying: "I could have all the makeup and the surgery, I could look like I popped out of a female Sports Illustrated magazine and that will never make me a Mother Gaia with the womb."
Caputo concluded the video with a powerful message about resilience and self-discovery, stating: "I'm very proud of myself. I've been through so much over the years. I wouldn't wish gender dysphoria on my worst enemy. It's one of the most uncomfortable things I've ever been through in my life and I'm just so happy it's f**king over and I don't even recognise myself anymore."
They expressed pride in overcoming years of inner turmoil, reflecting on how the things that once gave them freedom eventually became restrictive: "[...] What once freed me now caged me [...] And now I'm changing back again. I know I'm a more healed version of who I am because what my spirit has put myself through. I walked through so many fires, so much adversity I've been through in my life."
Looking ahead to 2025, Caputo declared their excitement about being “off of hormones” and fully de-transitioned, sharing: "I'm off of hormones. I'm [...] physically completely de-transitioned in 2025. I can't wait. I feel so free."
