Woman with Stage 4 Cancer Reveals Overlooked Symptoms Doctors Missed

Woman diagnosed with stage four cancer shares hidden symptoms that were dismissed by doctors

It is possible that the mother has been living with the five-centimeter tumor for a period of four years.

The concealed symptoms that were initially disregarded by medical professionals have been revealed by a woman who has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.

Unfortunately, it seems to be all too often for us to read about the neglect or disregard of someone’s health. In the case of Zoe Gardner-Lawson, this meant that she was told that she had a urinary tract infection while, in reality, she was suffering from colon cancer.

Ater the patient, who was 36 years old at the time, suddenly began experiencing a dull discomfort in her lower back in August of 2024, the general practitioner gave her a prescription for antibiotics that would last for five days over the phone.

Prior to the onset of this, the mother of three reported feeling “fit and healthy.” However, the discomfort did not subside, and she was prescribed two additional dosages to be taken over the course of one month.

“There was just no change – and by my third dose, I’d really deteriorated,” Zoe explained to me. “I was basically bedridden – I felt so unwell, and the back pain had spread to my abdomen, too.”

Despite the fact that she was still experiencing this discomfort and had no answers, the woman from Berkshire went back to her primary care physician in September, and they recommended that she go immediately to the emergency room.

The medical professionals there examined her symptoms and, following a physical examination, came to the conclusion that it could be kidney stones. It was determined through a CT scan that this was not the case, and she was then referred for blood tests.

Following the completion of the creatine reactive protein test, Zoe provided the following explanation: “They were increasing until they reached 364n/mol; a normal range for women is between 52.9n/mol and 91.9n/mol.” Someone who specializes in general surgery came to visit me, and he told me that it appeared as though I had fluid accumulation on my abdomen.

The point at which Zoe “threw her toys out the pram” and sought a full-body CT scan was at this time.

It was subsequently discovered that she had a tumor on her colon that was the size of a lime, which caused a perforation, and that the tumor had spread to her liver, peritoneum, and stomach lymph nodes. This discovery came after she had experienced this discomfort symptom for a period of two months.

Prior to the removal of the tumor in an emergency operation that took place at the beginning of October, a specialist informed her that she might have been living with the tumor for as long as four years.

Zoe was informed that she would need to increase the amount of chemotherapy she received for each round when a biopsy indicated that the disease was a malignant blastoma, which is one of the most aggressive forms of cancer.

She is currently on the fifth round of chemotherapy, which is considered to be quite “hardcore,” and she has stated that her prognosis continues to be uncertain at this time.

“The plan is, once I’ve had my sixth round of chemo, they’re hoping I’ll have responded well,” she stated in her statement. “All being well, I’ll need to be booked in for a second surgery – to remove remaining stomach lymph nodes and two tumours on my liver.”

Despite the fact that her pain signals were originally disregarded, Zoe is advocating for a reduction in the minimum age for colon cancer screenings to ‘at least’ 30 years old.

“If my illness had been detected at an earlier stage, it would have been far simpler to treat… She indicated that she believes there should be a reduction in the minimum age for testing.

In order to alleviate her financial concerns and fund her alternative treatment, Zoe has established a GoFundMe page.

According to the National Health Service (NHS), the primary symptoms of colon cancer are changes in your bowel movements, such as having softer stool movements, diarrhoea or constipation that is not typical for you;

whether you need to urinate more frequently or less frequently than usual; It is possible that you have blood in your feces, which may seem red or black; you may be bleeding from your bottom; you may frequently feel the urge to urinate, even if you have recently used the restroom; stomach pain, a lump in your stomach, bloating, and weight loss without any conscious effort on your part I am experiencing extreme fatigue for no apparent cause.

Macmillan’s Cancer Support Line may be reached at 0808 808 0000, seven days a week, between the hours of eight in the morning and eight in the evening, if you have been impacted by any of these difficulties and would like to speak to someone in confidence.
