Many fans will fondly remember Hale for his role as Dr. Roger Coleridge on the soap opera Ryan's Hope, a role he played from 1975 until the show's end in 1989.
According to IMDb, he starred in an incredible 909 episodes of the hit show.
And in 1995, Hale joined the case of General Hospital as Mike Corbin, where he showcased his talent by depicting the complexities of a father with a troubled past and gambling issues. Hale's character was the father of the unhinged mob kingpin Sonny Corinthos - who has been portrayed by Maurice Benard since 1993.
He would also star as Corbin in the show's spinoff series, Port Charles, from 1997 until 2000.
Hale would exit the show in 2010.
In his final acting role, Hale would reunited with Benard for the 2017 movie, The Ghost and the Whale.
The official General Hospital account on X has since paid tribute to Hale, writing in a post: "The entire General Hospital Family is saddened to hear of Ron Hale’s passing.
"We would like to extend our condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time. He was an incredible actor and an unforgettable colleague. May he rest in peace."
Former Days of Our Lives star Billy Warlock also paid his respects to Hale, tweeting: "It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve lost another great one. My dear friend Ron Hale has passed away. Ron was an amazing talent and an even better friend. I will miss you."
